Herbs for cooking
It has long been recognized that certain herbs for cooking have a two fold benefit.
One benefit is that the herbs add flavor to meals, while the second benefit is that they assist us to stay healthy as they contain powerful medicinal properties. In Jana Klauer, MD, book 'How the Rich Stay Thin', she recommends using herbs as a healthful substitute for salt. Dr Klauer specializes in the biology of fat reduction.
William J Keller PhD vice president of health sciences and educational services at Nature's Sunshine Products in Provo, Utah says that "before the discovery of modern pharmaceuticals, both Europeans and Americans relied on herbs. Even today, people in European nations use herbal medicines nearly every day. In this country (USA), however, we'd pretty much cast them aside – until about a decade or so ago".
The active ingredients in herbs are often virtually identical to the chemicals found in drugs. Researchers estimate that up to 30 percent of the drugs we use today contain ingredients that are very similar to compounds found in plants.
