Growing peppermint tips
Growing peppermint is best done in a damp rich soil in shady conditions. Sow straight in the garden, or in pots, just covering the seeds with soil. It is important to water on a regular basis to keep the soil moist. Keeping the plant clipped is also recommended.
Optimum depth – 2mm. Seedling emerge in 14 – 20 days. Plant apart – Thin out to a distance of 30cm (1ft). Row space – 30cm. Maturity – 12 weeks.
Alternatively, pieces of rooted runners can be planted 5cm (2in) deep and 15 cm (6in) apart during spring or after the danger of frost is over. Renewing clumps by dividing and replanting every two or three years will invigorate the plants and help protect them from disease.
