Growing parsley tips

Growing parsley needs to be done in spring. Sow the seeds directly where they are to grow.

Select a sunny location. Soil needs to be moist and well cultivated.

It can be a little difficult to grow successfully, thereby to increase your success rate it is advisable to include a compost into the soil. This provides food and moisture to the plant as it grows.

Even though a sunny position is recommended, it will still grow in a part shade position.

As the seeds can take up to 3 to 4 weeks to germinate, it is possible to soak the seeds overnight in water prior to sowing so as to speed up the process. Some people prefer to water the seeds with hot water after they are planted to achieve the quicker germination.

Once the plant starts growing reasonably well, trimming of older leaves can be done to encourage more growth from the center.

Also, the following spring when the plants start sending up flower-heads, they should be cut out to prevent them from seeding and dieing.

Optimum depth – 6mm
Plant apart – 30 cm
Row space – 30 cm
Germination – 21 – 28 days
Maturity – 10 – 16 weeks
